'Showdown' is track 10 on Clive Farrington's solo album 'INDEPENDENCE'.

Like many hunters for perfection, Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann have carried their craft through to today and indeed, they are still writing fresh, contemporary pop songs. Their hit single 'The Promise' is widely received as one of the best pop songs of the 80's. The song was featured in the hit movie Napoleon Dynamite in 2004  Andrew and Clive are still very much a song-writing partnership and joined forces with classically trained film composer, Jon Brooks.

Jon has a Master's degree in Composition for Film and Television and has worked as a professional composer since 2002. For six years he worked as an In-house Composer/Audio Consultant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working on scores for films, television, radio, television commercials, musicals and animation series. He returned to the UK and set up his own recording studio which is based in South Manchester. His clients and credits include: Coca Cola, Cadburys, Disney, Malaysia Airlines, Mars, Pixar, Pepsi, Saatchi & Saatchi and Sony...

Jon plays mainly the Piano and French Horn. At 12, he won first prize in a piano competition where he appeared on stage alongside Richard Clayderman. He has performed at a variety of venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Kuala Lumpur's Twin Towers and at the Vatican, Rome. He also had the privilege of performing for the Queen during her Jubilee Tour.

Group influences are primarily Scott Walker, John Williams, Jaques Brel, Mahler, Righteous Brothers, Hans Zimmer, Dvořák, Francis Lai, Tchaikovsky, Coldplay, Green Gartside (Scritti Politti), John Barry, Bon Jovi and The Blue Nile.

'Once Upon a Time' was inspired by incidental music and underscore in Walt Disney movies. Let your imagination run wild and listen to the enchanted forest in this disney-esque orchestral musical fairytale.

REVIEWS: 'Once Upon a Time'
"I'm a musician, and this is a truly remarkable composition piece. It definitely has a Disney-feel to it - very similar to Harry Gregson-Williams with his characters of Narnia. There are also moments relating to a princess or two that have a melancholy impression. Great work! Hope to hear more from you! Keep at it!!!" - MrDifeisenhauer

"Wow, I love you Jon! You are an inspiration to a lot of people. Your music is you passion and we all can feel it enter our ears straight through our heart and exits through the tears we flow. Your songs tell stories of which a lot of us can relate to. With the music you produced you have lifted spirits, made us love more, and most of all you give us an example of what music truly is supposed to be. I give a standing ovation" - Dee Bhadest

BIOGRAPHY:
Born into a musical family, Jon started his training on the piano at the age of six, and then took up the French Horn two years later. Now, as a multi-instrumentalist, he plays mainly the Piano, French Horn and Trumpet. In 1993, when he was twelve, Jon won first prize in a piano competition where he performed in Manchester on stage alongside Richard Clayderman. In 1996 he was awarded the 'Excellence through Achievement - Jonathan Donaghy and Emma McManus Memorial Trust Prize'. One year later, he took first prize, the Haydn Trophy, at Macclesfield Music Festival, performing Frank Bridge's 'Rosemary' on the piano.

Jon has performed at a variety of venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Kuala Lumpur's Twin Towers and at the Vatican, Rome. He also had the privilege of performing with Anita Sarawak, M. Nasir in Malaysia and for the Queen in London during her Jubilee Tour.

He began composing and orchestrating in his early teens, and almost immediately discovered that this was the career path he wanted to pursue. Jon continued his studies in Cambridge (Anglia Ruskin University), where he was elected student president of the music department. Relocating to Kingston University, London, he gained a Master's degree (with commendation) in Composition for Film and Television.

On completing his studies, Jon set up his own recording studio, working as a freelance composer in the UK before taking up a full-time position at WASP Studios in Malaysia as an in-house composer/sound designer mainly composing and orchestrating for film, television, radio, TVC's, theatre, mobile devices and animation. Jon returned to the UK in 2011 and continues to work as a freelance composer at the same time as running a recording studio and Tough Monkey Records.

Jon composes in a great variety of different genres, from epic orchestral scores to dance music, from jazz to canto pop, from western classical to eastern and from children's music to experimental work. Though his creativity is versatile, his real forte leans towards dramatic orchestral film scores. His music is heavily influenced by a wide range of composers spanning from the 17th century to the present day.

As well as his excellent working knowledge of music/sound production on both Apple Mac and Windows, Jon also has in-depth and extensive knowledge of recording equipment, techniques, programming and associated technologies. He is equally well versed in composing/arranging for live instrumentalists - 'keeping it live' and in producing close renditions by utilising powerful software, precision editing and the highest quality audio samples. Jon frequently combines the two.

His research into the relationship between sound and emotions enables him to approach projects with sensitivity and awareness. The function of music and sound in all media is paramount to his work, from concept to realisation.

Jon's work has enabled him to travel abroad extensively, including Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Holland, France, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Belgium, Austria and Italy as well as coast-to-coast in the United States.

Some of his musical influences include: Jerry Goldsmith, Gustav Mahler, Hans Zimmer, James Newton-Howard, Danny Elfman, Elgar, James Horner, Patrick Doyle, Brian Tyler, Debbie Wiseman, Rachel Portman, Two Steps From Hell, Trailermen, John Williams, John Barry, Mozart, Beethoven, Bernard Herrmann, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Elmer Bernstein, Thomas Newman, Alfred Newman, Randy Newman, Michael Giacchino, Elliot Goldenthal, David Arnold, E.S. Posthumus, Randy Edelman, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rupert Gregson-Williams, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Clint Mansell, Paul McCartney, Westlife, Rhianna, JLS, Take That, Robbie, The Beatles, Queen, Alan Menken, Michael Jackson, The Mission, The Pet Shop Boys, Clive Farrington, Bryan Adams, Sting, Debussy, Alan Menken, Craig Armstrong, Coldplay, David Guetta, William Orbit, Wagner, Shostakovich, Mike Oldfield, John Ottman, Christopher Young, John Powell, A. R. Rahman, Tchaikovsky, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gabriel Yared.

SHAPES "The Kangaroo and the Wombat"

"The Kangaroo and the Wombat" I composed the music for this animated series.  'Shapes' is a children's series of 39 x 7 minute episodes (Season 1), in which simple animal tales are brought to life using animated shapes. It feature's the writer of 'Backyardigans' and 'Little Einstein' and the voice talent of Joe Murray.

The series' quirky animation, simple lines and bold colours appeal visually to children, while the light-hearted stories keep them entertained. Kids love animals, so these stories, filled with talking animals both cunning and foolish, will capture their hearts! At seven minutes each, these mini-episodes are bite-sized enough to engage their attention fully.

The music throughout the series plays a supportive role.  The style is generally fun and whimsical with hints of drama!

Famous fables from around the world are brought to life using characters created from different shapes! This pre-school TV series retells beloved children's stories from Aesop's Fables to Australian Aborigines folktales using colourful shapes that cleverly form animals like rabbits, cats and even fish!

Created by the multi-award-winning animation studio Peach Blossom Media, each episode of this charming series entertains and teaches pre-schoolers about universal values of love, respect, courage and kindness.

Each story is presented by the narrator, Badger, who also comes on at the end to draw a conclusion from the story he has just told.  Badger chooses fables from all over the world, both ancient and modern. Just because a fable originated in Ancient Greece or among the Aborigines in Australia, it doesn't mean that the lesson it teaches isn't relevant to kids everywhere.

The uniqueness of the series lies in its design concept. Badger has at his disposal thousands of different shapes of all colours and sizes. He uses them to form the various characters and locations needed to tell each fable.  Sometimes the shapes are unruly and don't do what they are supposed to. At other times one of them falls out of place or turns up late, thereby disrupting the story. Badger interacts with the shapes, creating plenty of funny moments for kids to enjoy!
